Romans 7:1-3 Part 2 of 2

Do you not know, brothers and sisters--for I am speaking to those who know the law--that the law has the authority over someone only as long as that person lives? For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from the law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.

but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him
1 Corinthians 7:39  A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.

if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress
Luke 16:18  "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery."
Matthew 5:31-32  "It has been said, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' [Deuteronomy 24:1] But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery."
Matthew 19:9  "I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."
Mark 10:11-12  He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man she commits adultery."
1 Corinthians 7:10-11  To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

Romans 6:22-23 Part 2 of 2

But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

For the wages of sin is death

But now that you have been set free from sin
Romans 6:18  You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

and have become slaves of God
Romans 6:19  I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves of righteousness leading to holiness.
Romans 7:25  Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

Romans 6:19-21

I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!

I am using an example from everyday life
Romans 3:5  But if our unrighteousness brings out God's righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.)
Galatians 3:15  Brothers and sisters, let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case.

so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness
Romans 6:13  Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.
Romans 12:1  Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship.
2 Corinthians 5:14-15  For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
1 Peter 2:24  "He himself bore our sins" [Isaiah 53:4] in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; "by his wounds you have been healed." [Isaiah 53:5]

When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness
Romans 6:16  Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

Those things result in death!
Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Proverbs 10:16  The wages of the righteous is life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death.
Romans 8:6  The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:13  For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

Romans 6:17-18 Part 2 of 2

But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

You have been set free from sin
Romans 6:2  By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
Romans 6:6-7  For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
Romans 8:2  ... because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
1 Peter 4:1  Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.

and have become slaves to righteousness
Romans 6:22  But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
1 Peter 2:16  Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God's slaves.

Romans 6:17-18 Part 1 of 2

But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

But thanks be to God
Romans 1:8  First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.
Romans 7:25  Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
1 Corinthians 15:56-57  The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 2:14  But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ's triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
2 Corinthians 9:15  Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

though you used to be slaves to sin
Romans 6:16  Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness?

you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance
2 Timothy 1:13  What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.
