So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, "Why don't your
disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of
eating their food with defiled hands?"
He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
'These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.'
You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions!"
And
he continued, "You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God
in order to observe your own traditions! For Moses said, 'Honor your
father and mother,' and 'Anyone who curses their father or mother is to
be put to death.' But you say that if anyone declares what might have
been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to
God)--then you no longer let them do anything for their father or
mother. Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have
handed down. And you do many things like that."
"Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that."
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. [see all Hebrews 4]
Acts 12:24
But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.
[see all Acts 12]
1 Thessalonians 2:13
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.
[see all 1 Thessalonians 2]
2 Timothy 2:9b
But God's word is not chained. [see 2 Timothy 2:8-13]
1 Peter 1:23
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. [see all 1 Peter 1]
Ephesians 6:17
